LUNARTIK @ BCU (Birmingham City University)

Keeping up with the Joneses...
Exploring themes of productivity, motivation and self-realisation, Matt Jones, aka Lunartik, brings two exhibitions of conceptual art, designer toys and paintings to Birmingham City University (BIAD) – from which he graduated in 1999.Returning to the site of where his artistry was first formally harnessed, fits beautifully with the introspective themes of the two shows. As a multi-discipline designer with clients ranging from blue-chips to start-ups, the work also asks questions of the balance between commercial and personal artistry.
"TAKE A BREAK"
Lunartik in a cup of tea.
Encouraging us to take a moment to stop and reflect on our current situation, the exhibition showcases the evolution of the ‘Lunartik in a Cup of Tea’ designer toy– from concept sketches to final cast resin sculptures.
"THE SELF"
Motivation & Creation = Actualization.
With Freudian-like box headed representations of the self, the second exhibition explores our desires. Freeing themselves from the constraints of modern society, the characters instead follow a path of visionary
self-actualization.
Both exhibitions will be available to view until the end of April 08.
